Riverside has become one of my favourite progressive metal bands.

The point is I watched them some years ago in one of the Monster of Rock festivals held in Spain.

They made an impression on me, leaving a mark. However, it has been but recently that I have been abducted by their music.

Riverside albums are consistently perfect and the way they do it simply engages all your senses. Their songs make you dream with oneiric disturbance. It is utterly beautiful.

This Polish band clicks with the obscurity of H.P. Lovecraft's stories which I discovered by chance when reading the Providence's writer.

Similarly it perfectly pairs with another master of gothic underworlds. Also a Pole, Zdzisław Beksiński, whose paintings in turn, match the horror ideology of Lovecraft.

To finish off here you a have a song from their first album. A song full of magic. A journey to Riverside's universe where the two first albums are well worth a visit.

BATTLE TO THE LAST

Song: Battle To The Last Artist: DARKNESS This month I want to dust off the music of Darkness .  Some may say there are many bands with that name, but for me, there's only one Darkness. For those who are not familiar with the band, they became, in the late 80s, representative of what we could now call the purest old-school German Thrash style .  Their first two albums are cult items which I was lucky enough to have in my hands. Their records feature underground-drawn artwork that matches their vision of a world in chaos.  What I like most about this band is their raw sound. Listening to their albums is like being at a live concert. YOU CAN'T KILL ROCK AND ROLL

Ozzy Osbourne will always be part of the history of Heavy Metal as one of the major names in the genre. And I'm not going to speak about him beyond his records and musical performance.
